Toye Hughes

Toye Hughes was born on March 24, 1962 and departed this life on Friday, January 3, 2025 at University Hospital in New Orleans, LA. She was a native of New Orleans and member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She is survived by her children Tron Hughes (Racquel), LaToya Gerdes (Carlos), and Toi Hughes. Siblings Charles Lewis, Joyce Thomas, Terry Gerdes, and Ronald Gerdes. She is preceded by her mother and father Melvin and Louise Gerdes, brother Melvin Lewis, sister Louise Lewis, sister Cherry Minor, and sister-friend Patsy Cordier. She leaves behind grandchildren Glyndale Stevenson and Paris Neville. A host of cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. Funeral services are on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church located at 1625 Annette Street, New Orleans, LA 70116. The visitation will begin at 9 am followed by a 10 am Celebration of Life Service. Repass at St. Paul’s Lutheran fellowship hall. Interment at Resthaven Cemetery at 10400 Old Gentilly Road, New Orleans, LA. Funeral planning entrusted to Heritage Funeral Directors.
