Sylvan Pipe

Sylvan Tefioe Pipe known as "Van" or "Mr. Tibbs" was born September 19, 1945 to the late Charlie Pipe and Rosie Jones Pipe in New Orleans. After leaving school Van entered the Army in 1966.Van married Carolyn Johnson in1997. During their marriage they were the doggie parents of several animals. Van retired from Sewerage and Water Board after 33 years. He was a Master Mason with the Bosley Lodge #28. He joined the Buffalo Soldiers in 2008. He enjoyed "running that highway", and could always be found shining his motorcycles. Sylvan is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Geraldine Walker, Charles "PeeWee" Pipe and Claudia Mae Gresham. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Johnson Pipe, sisters Rose Mary Pipe and Evelina Thomas, in-laws Joyce Watson (Earl), Kenneth Henriques (Amanda), Micheal Henriques, Bobbie Stevens (Cleveland), Linda Andrews (James) and Kathleen Bennett (Edward), and a host of other family members and friends. Service will be on Wednesday, July 10,2024 at 11:00am at St James Methodist Church,1925 Ursuline Ave., New Orleans, LA., 70122. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until the hour of service. Interment: Mount Olivet, 4000 Norman Mayer, NOLA. Arrangements entrusted to Heritage Funeral Directors,4101 St Claude Ave., New Orleans, LA.,70117
