Robert Smith Sr

Robert Alfred Smith Sr., age 89, was born on April 25, 1935 in New Orleans, LA to the union of B.J. Smith and Mildred Bennette. He departed this earthly home on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Robert was retired from the International Longshoremen’s Association, AFL-CIO, Local 3000. He is survived by his children, Ronnie (Janice) Smith, Shelia (Lester) Morgan, Gwendolyn LeBlanc, Carolyn (Emmanuel) Bowden, Debbie (Leo) Nelson, Dinana Smith, Robert (Kelly) Smith Jr. and Jaylane Smith. Also, survived by a sister, Lula Mae (Cleo) McGowan, 21 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and longtime friend, Lionel Powell and Godchild, Keisha Henry. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Zenobia Smith, sister, Alma Williams, grandchildren, Khole’ Jackson and Byron Jackson. Robert was the best father, grandfather, family man, and friend anyone could ask for. He loved to spend time with his family dancing, eating and just enjoying life. Special thanks to his care givers, Rakeem Ratliff (Pace) and Claudette Brown. Family, friends, Members of Passages Hospice, Pace of Greater New Orleans, Sisters of Mary, International Longshoremen’s Association, First Student Bus Company, Regional Transit Authority, Greater Little Zion Baptist Church and Touro Infirmary are invited to Robert’s Homegoing Celebration on October 5, 2024 at Greater Little Zion Baptist Church, 5130 Chartres St., New Orleans, LA. 70117 for 10:00am. Officiant Pastor Gilbert Scie. Visitation will begin at 9:00am until the hour of service. Burial to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
