Oscar Singleton Sr – 92, died on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer at the home of his youngest daughter, Debbie Elliott of Violet, Louisiana. Born in Violet, Louisiana on January 16, 1926, Oscar is survived by sister Gloria Marilyn of New Orleans, LA; devoted daughters Ann Washington of New Orleans, LA, Violet Ayers of Decatur, GA, Barbara Johnson (Prentiss) of Jacksonville, FL, Dale Harris Cheddie (Dhaneshwar) of Sugar Land, TX, JoAnn Parker (Gerard) of Slidell, LA and Debbie Elliott (Michael) of Violet, LA. Grandchildren: Yolanda (Alex) Green, Yvette (Victor) Agbebaku, Aaron (Donna) Washington, Antionette (Carl) Lee, Daynel L. Hooker (J.D), Jackie (LaTanya) Harris Jr., Shonette (Alex) Sneed, Kawanta (Niana) Singleton, Marwan (Sarah) Singleton, Jai Parker, Khayree (Rachel) Lofton Sr., Keita (Teresa) Singleton, Jacquin Johnson, Paula (Richard) Tyler, LaToya Humble, Paul Humble and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins family and friends.
Oscar was preceded in death by former wife, Violet Penn Singleton; daughters Mary Louise Johnson, Annie Mae Singleton and son Oscar (Dickie Man) Singleton.
Oscar worked for Hubig’s Pies and retired from Mooney Equipment & Sons as a cement mason and concrete finisher. In retirement, Oscar loved being a handy man and traveling to visit his daughters. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He was a faithful fan of the New Orleans Saints, Pelicans, LSU Tigers and professional tennis and golf.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a the funeral at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church International Shrine of St. Jude at 411 N. Rampart St., New Orleans, LA 70112 on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 9 am until 10 am. Those invited include Pear Land High School & staff; Rehab Services of NOLA & staff; Inspire Care LLC & staff; RTA & staff; NORD & staff; Marie Riviere Elementary School & staff; First Class Presentation Catering LLC & staff; DLH Consulting Services LLC & staff; U.S. Security Association & staff; Renaissance Health & staff and La Maison Dupuy Restaurant & staff.
Visitation is at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church (St. Jude) from 9am to 10am on Saturday, October 6, 2018, and funeral service start at 10 am. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
