Eugene (Gene) Joseph Fields Sr, 83 of Houston,TX formerly of New Orleans, LA area passed away peacefully on February 03, 2023 at 11:30pmCST. He was born in New Orleans, LA to Michael and Edith Borras Fields.
Eugene was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Linda Ryals Fields, his children, Terrilynn A Fields, Michael Eugene Fields his wife Sharon, Christy Fields Green, and Eugene Joseph Fields Jr. his spouse Nathan, stepson David Mancuso his wife Alma; grandchildren, Ashten Rae Fields, Nathan Michael Fields his wife Mei Ka, Dannon Louis Fields, Trenton Paul Green, Kaytie RaeAnn Green, Ava G Mancuso and great granddaughter Sydney KaYan Fields.
Eugene attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans.
He majored in Criminal Justice at Loyola University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, US Secret Service Dignitary Protection Course, the US Customs Cross Training Course, Texas A&M Polygraph Examiners School, and the LSU Law Enforcement Institute.
Eugene served with the New Orleans Police Department from 1961- 1980, retiring as a Lieutenant in the Major Offense Bureau.
In 1980, he accepted a position with Sheriff Harry Lee, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Chief in command of the Investigations Bureau, remaining in that position until his retirement in 1995. He then operated Centurion Services Inc, an investigative and security consulting firm operating in LA, MS, and AL until 2016.
From 1971- 1980 he also served as President of Professional Polygraph Consultants, Inc., the largest polygraph testing firm in LA.
He has lectured at the LSU School of Law, Xavier University, School of Pharmacy, LSU Law Enforcement Institute, University of Louisville, Alabama Criminal Justice Academy, New Orleans Police Academy, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Academy, and the Hancock County, MS Sheriff’s Department. He served as an ad hoc member on the LA Governor’s Drug Policy Board from 1989-1995. In this position he participated in the review and recommendation on all Federal Grant applications by Law Enforcement in the State of LA. He has served on the Investigations Committee, International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) from 1983 to 2019.and is a Lifetime Member of the IACP.
He was selected in 1993 to participate in a National Homicide Symposium, hosted by the FBI. In 1994, he was appointed as a Committee Member at the FBI Academy, to revise an operational manual for creating and implementing interagency violent crime task force operations. In 2001 he was appointed to the Transition team, Public Safety Task Force of New Orleans Mayor- elect Ray Nagin.
He has received mention in nine books, one of which, ‘Badge of the Assassin’, became a made for TV movie.
In 2021 he wrote and published.” Cops and Characters in the Big Easy”, a detailed account of investigations, during the period 1960-1980. Available thru Amazon.
