Essie Mae Harris Perry of New Orleans, La. transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday July 14, 2021 at the age of 80. Essie, the eldest child born to Will H. and Leah Harris, in Amite County Mississippi on April 14, 1941.
Essie graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Southern University New Orleans and a Master’s Degree from the University of Cincinnati. As a licensed clinical social worker she taught at SUNO, served as a counselor to numerous students in the public school system, and mentored graduate students.
She was a long standing member of New Hope Baptist Church, who worked in whatever capacity that was needed. She served well until God said well done my good and faithful servant and called her home.
She was preceded in death by her father Will Henry, her mother Learh, her daughter Susan and step-son Prentiss. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Joseph Perry Sr. 4 daughters, Glinda, Debra, Lisa (Mike) and Pam(Gordon), 3 sons and her nephew (Jessie, Reginald, Darrell and Myron) and 2 step-children Ron and Joseph III, 28 grandchildren, 4 sisters, 4 brothers and a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
