Charles Calvin affectionally known as CC, Bro. Calvin and PawPaw was born September 1, 1932, to the union of the late Ella Titus and Henry Calvin in Baton Rouge, La. He was married to Rosie Johnson, whom he cherished dearly. After moving to New Orleans, Bro. Calvin joined New Hope in 1968 and served under the leadership of the late Rev. Freddie H. Dunn, and the late Rev. John C. Raphael, Jr. and continued to serve faithfully under his current pastor, Rev. Jamaal Weathersby. Bro. Calvin was employed by NASA Michoud as a Janitorial Supervisor. With his experience in the janitorial field, Bro. Calvin embarked on the opportunity to become a business owner, by opening Industrial Cleaning Services July of 1974. His first major janitorial contract was with his former employer NASA Michoud which eventually led to other major contracts including: F. Edward Hebert Building, Army Corps of Engineering, Carville Leprosy Hospital, Lakefront Airport, Stennis Space Center and several other 8a contracts. He also provided services to many local churches, schools, and office buildings. Although he retired in 2000, he continued consulting and working with other Janitorial Companies. Bro. Calvin served as a mentor to many people and was known for giving them guidance on successfully business practices. Preceding him in death were his parents, his daughter, Dorothy Ann Calvin; and many other relatives. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving wife Rosie Johnson Calvin, daughter; Karen (Marlon) Yarbrough; special grandson, Terrence Mitchell ; 2 grandchildren Ebony & Walter; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Ellen James, Delores Rogers, and Annie B. Charleston; one aunt, Hattie Booker, two sisters-in-law, Cassandra McCoy and Dorothy Murray; 2 brothers-in-law, Curtis McCoy and Charles Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and the New Hope Family.
