Florita Lornette Smith

Florita Lornette Smith (also known as Florita L. Young & Florita Johnson) passed away on the morning of 12 July 2017 at Canon Hospice in Elmwood, LA; she was 54.  
 
Florita was born in New Orleans, LA on December 9, 1962 to mother Doris Jenkins Young of Ellisville, MS, and father Louis Green of Garyville, LA. She had one sibling, older sister Shree.  Florita attended Xavier University Preparatory School, where she participated in basketball, volleyball, softball and majorettes, graduating in 1979.  She graduated from the University of Phoenix in 2001 and 2016, earning a Bachelors and Masters of Business Administration, respectively. She was Vice President, Public Relations head, and A&R of Shadow Records Inc., and a managing member of Profectic Reflections, LLC.
 
Florita was a resounding humanitarian, academic, vocalist, poet, model, organizer & coordinator, and entrepreneur.  She was uncommonly loving, straight-forward, easily made friends, tenacious in her goals, and maintained a peculiar gift of favor throughout her life.  She welcomed travel and did so frequently with her multiple career opportunities and after Hurricane Katrina with relatives, to Fort Worth, Texas, later returning to New Orleans in 2012.
 
Florita Smith is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband Wardel Smith Jr., daughters and son Bianca & Shante’ Smith, and Jacques Lewis. Also surviving is her sister Shree L. Pierre, niece Renetrice Pierre, great nephew Vladimir Esteen, beloved cousin Jean Rogers, and an array of grandchildren and extended family including the Jenkins, Rogers, Emersons, Johnsons (prior marriage to Kevin Johnson), close friends Kenny Herbert, Swane Blackmore, Sheila Dubose, and a plethora more. Viewing with a following service will be on Saturday, 22 July 2017, 9 a.m. & 10 a.m. at Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, 2525 First Street, New Orleans, LA, with interment following immediately at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Ave, and repass at 2720 Republic Street thereafter.  Arrangements entrusted to Heritage Funeral Directors.
